Although William MacDonald (1917 – 2007) wrote over 84 books in his lifetime, he was best known for the Believer’s Bible Commentary, which we are releasing today for the Accordance Bible Software Library. In addition to being a prolific writer, MacDonald was part of the faculty and eventually president of Emmaus Bible College. It has been said that MacDonald refused to accept royalties for any of his books but instead created a Trust for translating the Believers Bible Commentary into other languages.
MacDonald’s own faith background was rooted in the Brethren Assembly movement (sometimes referred to as Plymouth Brethren), but he usually wrote for a much wider Christian audience. He desired the Believer’s Bible Commentary to be accessible by all Christians. And he was not afraid to tackle difficult issues instead of glossing over them as is often done in one-volume commentaries.
From the publisher:
William MacDonald tackles the controversial issues head-on, taking a theologically conservative stand, yet presenting alternate views with fairness. The Believer’s Bible Commentary is a friendly guide to exploring the deeper meanings of every biblical book.
Also, according to the webpage linked above, MacDonald’s Believer’s Bible Commentary is Thomas Nelson’s best-selling commentary. Clearly it is one of the most beloved works of its kind for this generation. This commentary uses the New King James Version for its base, but Accordance users can place it in parallel with any Bible text or translation of their choosing.
For a limited time, Accordance users can obtain the Believer’s Bible Commentary with introductory discounted pricing.
