Faith and Sanctification is the second volume of Berkouwer’s Studies in Dogmatics.

In this volume Berkouwer, stating the relevance and character of his subject, points out the relevance of sanctification to bread- and-butter problems of life, and the interest of the unbeliever in this teaching in detecting the pretension of being saintly, a pretension the accuser deems entirely unwarranted. Here is set forth the gravity of the Christian’s responsibility: “You are the light of the world.” Also involved is the paradox of the modesty of sanctification and its inherent radiance — “For there is nothing hid, save that it should be manifested; neither was anything made secret, but that it should come to light” — that gives it its peculiar character.
